Pile On
Turns out the "ex" was nothing more than just casually friendly. No, ulterior motives, no nothing. What a relief.

The last 48 hours have gone as well as I could've possibly hoped. This is very encouraging.

And then I got home. Almost immediately, my phone rang. It was my dad. As soon as I heard him speak I feared something terrible was going to come out of his mouth - his voice was just tragic. I feared death in the family. What I got was something less than that - thankfully - but still terribly awful. My dad had a horrible farm accident that left him lying on the ground in a fetal position.

The grain auger got away from him and started rising off the ground. To keep the other end from crashing he jumped up to grab hold and pull it back down. Instead, the auger kept rising to the point where his feet were roughly 15 feet off the ground. This was the point where he had to let go and fall to the ground. "Fortunately" he only crushed one of his vertebrae in his lower back and broke his arm by the elbow. He is able to walk, thank God - even tonight when we were talking on the phone. Luckily for him, he got the "best" worst-case scenario. So now he's recovering in an upper body cast for the time being (with some good drugs).

This, with a corn harvest to take care of.
